UNITED KINGDOM : BODMIN, CORNWALL Bodmin Jail has completed a major re-development and is now open. Immerse yourself in Cornwall's Dark History in our new 'Dark Walk' with state of the art theatrical effects that bring some of the grimmest stories vividly to life. Bodmin Jail is an experience for the family (see our family information), or for the daring who want to discover the paranormal.
We provide a courtesy Passenger Assist Vehicle that can be booked in advance to help visitors between the nearest car park and the attraction gates. We are pleased to inform you that the Bodmin Jail Attraction is now fully accessible. We have also changed our dog policy and unfortunately, we do not allow dogs into the new attraction for their own wellbeing. You can find out more here. Please note that Filming and photography are not permitted within the attraction. Private Venue Hire is available for Filming, Ghost Hunting, Photography and Paranormal Investigations. |

Bodmin Jail is an excellent example of the ingenuity and engineering prowess of Victorian architects. Designed by Sir John Call and built in 1779, Bodmin Jail was originally built for King George III and features incredible vaulted ceilings and striking carved wood panelling, complete with a heating and cooling system that was unprecedented for its time.
Our guided prison tour gives you a deeper insight into what life was like behind bars in the 18th and 19th century, and how the prison came to be. Visit the infamous Execution Pit, restored to full working condition and the only working execution pit in the UK.
Step back in time and learn about the various criminals who were hanged from its gallows, including Selina Wadge, one of only four women to be hanged in the jail, and William Hampton, who was the last person to be executed by hanging in Cornwall.
